On 24 July 1984, I arrived in Los Angeles by way of Seoul, South Korea, and Seattle, Washington to meet my adopted forever family.

On 4 February 2017, I brought my baby boy, Captain Hastings Alyosha, home from Life Animal Rescue and understood just a wee bit of the joy and wholeness that comes to a parent’s heart when connected with their baby.

I will forever be grateful and full of joy knowing I was chosen by the King of kings, my family, and my baby boy.

Thank you Joy for sharing such a personal piece of you. It is very beautiful. I am very fortunate to have always had my birth parents growing up but i know of so many stories where the birth parents is always absent in their child’s life and i love that quote you placed on this post that real parents are any parents that is not imaginary. When i relocated many years ago to Canada, I had no family around me and I hesitated for so many years about having a baby with my partner (he has very little family too) because I didn’t feel I would be able to provide to my child everything that I had received as a child (love from grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family). We had this much older couple as friends. And before my baby arrived, we always went camping and did activities with this older retired couple. I told my partner that once our baby is here, this older couple would probably distance themselves from us cos now as parents of a baby, we could no longer engage in the same activities with them. To my surprise, they both just took in and adopted my baby like he was their grandson. My baby is 2 years old now and not one day passes when i dun feel so grateful and thankful that my baby now has grandparents to love him. And whether they are his birth grandparents or not really doesn’t matter. What matters is they love my little boy to pieces and there is no doubt in anyone mind that they are his grandparents, adopted or not.
