But during a recent dinner-time stroll through Laguna Niguel, we happened upon this hidden gem, and I’m so glad we stopped in. If you’re a fan of Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill, get ready—this is a more casual, fast-fresh version with some tasty surprises.

WR Kitchen and Bar is a fast-casual spinoff of the beloved Wood Ranch restaurant brand. While it retains many of the classic American BBQ favorites, this newer concept introduces a more relaxed, counter-order format and a few unique menu items you won’t find at the flagship locations.
According to the official description:
“WR Kitchen and Bar is casual dining at its best. Comfortably dine with family and friends while enjoying much of the same great American food and drinks you’re accustomed to getting at Wood Ranch. In addition, we’ve worked hard over the past two years innovating several delicious and unique new food and drink items that we’re confident will excite you too.”
And yes—they really deliver on that promise!

When you arrive at the Laguna Niguel location, you’ll head up a long (and fully accessible) ramp that leads into the restaurant. Right away, you’ll notice the familiar Wood Ranch aesthetic—modern rustic touches, wood paneling, and an inviting, laid-back vibe.
Instead of a traditional hostess, there’s a chalkboard-style sign inviting you to grab a menu, order at the bar (look for the “Order Food Here” sign), and then seat yourself inside or out.
We chose the outdoor patio, which was a pleasant surprise:

For $12, I received three generously filled tacos packed with:

They were served on a wooden carving tray that added a nice touch to the presentation, and the flavor? Absolutely delicious—the perfect balance of smoky, tangy, and fresh.
