TruConnect and Lifeline‘s FREE mobile plan is a huge benefit for accessible visits to the Disney Parks!

The Lifeline mobile phone is a true “lifeline” for not only when I’m running to the typical doctor appointments and doing errands around town but is also a huge benefit for when I am visiting Walt Disney World and Disneyland. With mobile ordering being pushed by the Disney Parks more and more, having a mobile phone at Disney is almost a necessity. Even better if you have internet on your phone to use the apps when WiFi is glitchy. But how does one on disability afford a pricey phone and even pricier phone bill?

That’s where TruConnect and Lifeline come in!

What to know About TruConnect Phones

  • I received the Android (Blaze x500) with SIM card included and the battery in a separate packet in the same shipping box. Even though it felt like I was breaking the phone apart, I used a coin to pull at the phone’s seem to open and install the battery.
  • You need to make a phone call from your new device immediately after receiving it for activation. And at least one call per month to keep it activated.
  • If you wish to keep your old mobile number, you’ll need to have your account information (password, username, phone #, etc.) available when calling TruConnect’s customer service number (1-800-430-0443).
  • If you are an Apple user, you can get a SIM card only and install it in your iPhone.
  • To set up your own device with the new SIM card, it’s suggested you try following TruConnect’s blog instructions here. Especially if you are trying to set up your 3g, this might be the only explainable instructions.

How to Get your own Lifeline Phone:

You can get Lifeline if you participate in one of these federal assistance programs:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Tribal Programs (and live on federally-recognized Tribal lands)

Show a card, letter, or official document, as proof that you participate in one of these programs when you apply for Lifeline.

My phone plan via TruConnect includes:

Free – Android Phone (optional)

Free – Up to 1.5GB Monthly Data

Free – Unlimited Talk and Text

Free – Unlimited Calls to Select Countries

Conserving Data Usage at Disney Parks

Thanks to the 1.5gb of monthly data, you can use the maps app on your phone in a pinch and even look up a few websites when you’re on the road.

But how do you conserve your monthly data when you’re visiting Walt Disney World or Disneyland?

  • Be sure you have your data setting OFF when you are using wifi in the parks. Only turn on the data when you can’t find any wifi.
  • If traveling with friends and family who have unlimited data, kindly ask if they wouldn’t mind using their data for quick searches (eg. wait times, shows and fireworks times).
