What is The Hiding Place About?

The Hiding Place is a memoir by Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch Christian who, along with her family, helped many Jews escape the Holocaust during World War II. The book recounts Corrie’s experiences before and during the war, including their efforts to hide Jewish refugees in a secret room in their home, hence the title.

The narrative follows Corrie’s upbringing in Haarlem, Netherlands, where she lived with her father, Casper ten Boom, and her siblings. The ten Boom family were devout Christians, and their faith played a central role in their lives. As the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands intensified, the ten Boom family became involved in the Dutch resistance, offering a safe haven for Jews and members of the underground movement.

Eventually, the ten Boom family was betrayed, and they were arrested by the Gestapo in 1944. Corrie, along with her father and sister Betsie, were sent to various concentration camps, including Ravensbrück. Throughout their ordeal, the ten Boom sisters held onto their faith and continued to minister to their fellow prisoners, offering hope and comfort in the midst of unimaginable suffering.

The Hiding Place is a story of courage, resilience, and the power of faith to endure even the darkest of times. It serves as a testament to the ten Boom family’s commitment to helping others and standing up against injustice, even at great personal risk.
