Sprinkles Cupcakes are renowned the world over as the world’s first cupcake bakery. I have been a fan of Cupcake Wars on The Food Network and believed the ultimate cupcake had to be Candace Nelson’s Sprinkles Cupcakes. She is the judge of Cupcake Wars so that only stands to reason, right? 🙂

While doing some shopping and grabbing a bite to eat at the Westlake Village Promenade, I noticed the big SPRINKLES sign and pulled my dad inside to see what the fuss was about.

On a Wednesday night around 7:30 the place was PACKED with anxious patrons and at least four employees behind the counter taking orders and replenishing cupcakes. Considering the high demand, both my dad and I noted a severe lack of haste amongst the employees — it was as if they were moving at 1/2 speed packing boxes and bags with cupcakes.
Because of the queue and slow service, we had plenty of time to admire the variety of cupcakes on display and chose to take home a pumpkin spice cupcake. The cupcake was moist and the frosting was plentiful (too rich, IMO) and yet it was nothing to write home about and that made me a bit sad if truth be told.  With all the hype surrounding Sprinkles Cupcakes I frankly expected more. Especially with the price tag.

Perhaps I am just spoiled knowing the delicious offerings of Karin Wall, Audrie Sharpe and Linda Browning. 😉
