Thank you for continuing to follow along on my journey through disability. As of yesterday, 1 December, it has been 4 years since I came home from London dreadfully sick and unable to even walk or pack my luggage without assistance which is why my wonderful mum came out to help me pack and get me to the airport and home again.
We’ve certainly had many setbacks such as this year’s unresolved issues with my lungs but I also have many reasons to be joyful and grateful this Christmas season. But it was not until I had a chance to visit Santa Claus at SANTA HQ in Thousand Oaks this week did I get in the spirit of the season. And I have one very sweet Santa to thank for that…
As you adults know, Santa is so busy up north at the workshop that he sends his helpers to greet us common folk at the local malls. And sometimes you will be lucky enough to meet one of Santa’s star helpers and this was one of those moments. Santa was beaming with joy and kindness and when he had a lull in the queue, he stood and went to greet a young boy who was passing with his mom in the thoroughfare and got down at his level for a sweet chat.
And after a tour of the updated Santa HQ with manager Wendy I had my chance with friend A to visit Santa’s sleigh and was ever so pleased by his striking appearance. He could easily be taken for Santa’s twin brother with his perfectly shaped beard and that twinkle in his eye. And he was so generous and sweet with his response when I part jokingly asked for a new set of lungs.
Also, instead of an elf video you can now take a selfie in the Magic Mirror. The mechanics seem to have been perfected so the time it takes to make the selfie is shorter. The camera is still awkward in that you have to find a good positioning to center your face properly. But it is fun to also move certain body parts such as your arm and have that captured in the selfie. You get 3 each and they are emailed or texted to any email or phone number you use.
All in all, I highly recommend a visit to see Santa at the Thousand Oaks Mall where he is brightening spirits thanks to HGTV and The Oaks. And I am pleased to announce that The Oaks Mall has made it easy for the disabled to access the exhibit with wide aisles and space to move around in.
