Sanditon Season 2 – Life Without Sidney Parker
No explanation is necessary to describe the connection between PBS Masterpiece and Jane Austen. However, many fans were left wondering what could possibly come to Sanditon in Season 2 and Season 3 after Sidney Parker (Theo James, Divergent Trilogy) broke our ingénue’s heart at the end of Sanditon Season
Sanditon Season 2 begins with the lid firmly sealed on any hopes of Sidney Parker returning. So what does that mean for Rose Williams‘ Charlotte? Naturally, she will have two love interests on the horizon in the form of Army Colonel Francis Lennox (Tom Weston-Jones), and the gloomy widower Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) while she enthusiastically denies any interests for a romance of her own.
This season Charlotte brings her younger sister, Alison (Rosie Graham), to the seaside where they both sport runaway curls that thankfully are pulled up in a manner suiting the day in later scenes. Interestingly, and without trying to give away too many spoilers, you will see Charlotte lower her hair once again at the end of Season 2 and what does it signify? Hmm…
The younger Miss Heywood is much like we remember Charlotte at the beginning of Season 1 before she had fallen in love with and been heartbroken by the loss of Sidney. Her desire is to find a pair of husbands for both herself and her sister. And she ends up entangled in a romance that hints of Cyrano inspirations with Army Captains Carter (Maxim Ays) and Fraser (Frank Blake).
The hunt is on with or without Charlotte’s agreement.
Esther, Lady Babington, Promises to Win Many Hearts in Sanditon Season 2
“Disdain his every word. If he persists, marry him,” Esther tells Charlotte’s younger sister with a twinkle in her eye when asked for advise on finding a husband.
Ah yes, the Esther (Charlotte Spencer, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Stephen Ward) we know and love from season 1 is back with a vengeance. Her tongue is just as witty and prickly as we might remember. But her love for Lord Babington (Mark Stanley) has altered her. She believes herself to no longer be the puppet and prey of her step-brother, Sir Edward (Jack Fox), but the fact that he is back bodes only bad tidings for the citizens of Sanditon.
[SPOILER] In Sanditon Season 2 Episode 1, we learn that Esther is in town because she had a miscarriage and the doctors in town are telling her that she might not be able to have living children. She has therefore come to Sanditon in the hopes of finding a cure and seeks the support of her aunt, Lady Denham (Anne Reid, Last Tango in Halifax), who shows a fondness and protective nature towards her niece.
What is Charles Lockhart’s Connection to Georgiana Lambe?
Charles Lockhart (Alexander Vlahos) is a mysterious and Byronic artist who woos the independent Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke) but does he wish her well or not?
And what of the hint of a connection between Georgiana and Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery)? The friendship between Georgiana and Arthur has even been the focus of fan fiction and YouTube fan videos. Here’s hoping we might still see something blossom between the two friends in Season 3.
The Politics Weigh Down Sanditon Season 2
Sadly Sanditon is weighed down by the politics they try to weave into the storylines such as Georgiana’s endeavor to take a stand against slavery and the sugar trade.
Will Sanditon Season 2 Offer a Happy Ever After Ending?
Much like Season 1 of Sanditon, the ending of Sanditon Season 2 leaves room for future developments in the next season. No official date has been announced for Season 3.
In Season 1, we saw Esther marry Lord Babington and yes, at least one young lady will get her happily ever after in Sanditon Season 2 too. But just whom might it be?
And where does this leave us for Season 3? Frankly, the one thing I am most hopeful for in Season 3 is the blossoming of a romance between Georgiana and Arthur. By the time episode 6 of Season 2 had wrapped, I was feeling tired and weighed down by the drama. It will be good to have some time to digest what we have learned in Season 2 so we are better prepared and have fresh stomachs for any and all drama in Season 3.
