Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is a unique exhibition that’s landed in Los Angeles, California, through November 2021.
Official Description for Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Exhibition
Have you ever dreamt of going back in time? Take a life-size, up-close, never-before-seen perspective of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. With special expertise and care, the ceiling paintings from the Sistine Chapel have been reproduced using licensed high-definition photos and a special printing technique that emulates the look and feel of the original paintings. See every detail, every brushstroke, and every color of the artist’s 34 frescoes. Those who have already visited the Sistine Chapel will find a new way of observing the art, and those who have never seen the originals will be intrigued and inspired to visit the Sistine Chapel at some time in the future.
Review of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Exhibition
Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition is billed as “a life-size, up-close, never-before-seen perspective of the genius masterpieces.” And the exhibit does not disappoint. In fact, I would happily say that this exhibit surpassed my expectations and was not only educational but enjoyable!
This exhibit brings fans of Michelangelo a unique and awesome experience and perspective of the Sistine Chapel frescoes. Each fresco has been replicated for an opportunity to have an up close view. In addition to the fabulous replications, there are also terrific audio guides available for purchase that provide great details that go beyond what is available to read on the placards and a short educational video that’s worth watching.
Have you been to the Sistine Chapel in Rome? You will still want to take time to go see this incredibly educational exhibition while it is in town. Here you have the opportunity to enjoy the artwork at your own pace without a packed crowd pushing you forward, can learn from the informative audio guides, and enjoy an up close opportunity to examine Michelangelo’s work.
p.s. The official website suggests that you only need 60-90 minutes for your tour throughout the exhibit but I would highly recommend planning on at least 2 hours to thoroughly explore the exhibit. You do not want to be rushed and miss something!
What are you waiting for?! Don’t miss out on your chance to explore this unique piece of history and art.
