The Reagan Library‘s beautiful An American Christmas display is back and simply stunning! During the day (10am-5pm), guests enjoy a tour through their indoor exhibit featuring 25 trees decorated to celebrate the defining moments of America’s road to greatness, from the Revolutionary Era to today. Each tree reflects the life and times of American society and culture during each decade between 1770 and 2010 and beyond, thus tracing the evolution of America. Through the use of lights, ornaments and decorations, each tree becomes its own piece of magnificent art. Also on display is a collection of beautiful gifts hat were given to President Reagan during his tenure in the White House.

The holiday touches are sprinkled throughout the library starting with a beautiful Menorah and tea set, on display in the Oval Office alongside some poinsettias, that were given to the president during his time in the White House.
Accessible Note: For those who cannot manage the stairs down into the Oval Office, there is a long route the back way. Unfortunately when I was there this last time there were no docents available to show the way or open the heavy doors (!) but thankfully I remembered the route so wasn’t looking around like a headless chicken.
There are also some beautiful and unique artifacts on display including a football given to the President signed by the New York Jets and a cabinet with a hand painted nativity scene.

Finally we get to the An American Christmas display just prior to reaching Air Force One. This display is separated into two rooms. In each room you will see some of the most beautifully decorated trees on display that each represent a decade in American history starting with 1770 and ending with a blank tree for the current decade.
The design of these trees is simply gorgeous. My dad and I especially loved the use of ribbon on the trees and the decorators’ ability to display such unique and awkwardly shaped items as the Wright Brothers’ plane and an Oregon Trail wagon. There is no suggestion as to the birth of Jesus in this exhibit but you certainly walk away with a sense of patriotism and even some tidbits about our history that you might not have known about beforehand.
