Disney’s Haunted Mansion 2023 is a movie best to leave the younger kids at home.
Thanks to Jacky Tames for co-writing this review.
Official Synopsis of Disney’s Haunted Mansion 2023
Disney’s Haunted Mansion (2023) is an American supernatural horror comedy movie about a single mom named Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) who hires a tour guide (LaKeith Stanfield), a psychic (Tiffany Haddish), a priest (Owen Wilson) and a historian (Danny DeVito) to help exorcise her newly bought mansion after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts.
This is the second theatrical film adaptation of Walt Disney’s theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion, following the 2003 film of the same name (starring Eddie Murphy).
Just How Creepy and Scary is Disney’s Haunted Mansion Movie?
Re-read, if you will, the three descriptive categories given to Disney’s Haunted Mansion 2023 movie – supernatural, horror, comedy.
With a strong rating of PG-13 due to some thematic elements and scary action, this movie is one best to leave the little ones at home. Even reviewer Jacky screamed a few times at a recent screening during a scary moment or two throughout the movie. There are pop ups, genuinely unsettling characters like the axe-wielding bride, and a child is in constant danger.
In her own words, “this is not a very kid friendly movie”.
Yes, there are some funny sequences along the lines of Beetlejuice but the scary and unsettling moments outweigh the funny when it comes to being cautious in bringing young ones to this movie.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the movie toes the line as a Disney picture in terms of adult level humor which seems to be intended to draw out a more mature audience.
Why Should You See Disney’s Haunted Mansion 2023 Movie in Cinemas?
According to guest critic Jacky, this movie was insanely hilarious!
Tiffany Haddish was hilarious as Harriet and her portrayal of the medium had the audience laughing throughout the movie. Owen Wilson was also a standout in the movie for his performance as the priest causing the audience to constantly be chuckling.
Additionally, any fan of Walt Disney’s The Haunted Mansion attraction will love how closely the movie resembles the attraction at the theme parks. They’ll also really enjoy how much the movie flushes out the characters of the ghosts we know from within the Haunted Mansion attraction.
