Disney’s The Little Mermaid musical is wowing audiences in La Mirada, California, this summer!

Disney's The Little Mermaid Musical in La MIrada - review

McCoy Rigby Entertainment’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid musical is hands down the best production of the classic musical this reviewer has ever had the pleasure of seeing live.

Here are just 3 reasons you need to get yourself down to La Mirada, California (9 miles north of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim):

The Most Perfect Casting of Disney’s The Little Mermaid Musical

The amazing Sierra Boggess (OG Ariel) is hard to beat but Asian-American actress Leianna Weaver is absolutely captivating and enchanting as Ariel drawing audiences in with her stunning vocals, gorgeous looks, believable chemistry with leading actor Coleman Cummings (Prince Eric), and effortless movement.

Leianna Weaver stars in the LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT production of “Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID,” directed by Glenn Casale and now playing at LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.

As Prince Eric, Coleman Cummings (he/they) also excelled vocally shining especially during his Act One solo, “Her Voice”, and his chemistry with Leianna during “One Step Closer” was believable and had you cheering for them to have their happily ever after.

Christopher Diem, Leianna Weaver, Dana Orange, Coleman Cummings, Mitchell Lam Hau and Quintan Craig star in the LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT production of “Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID,” directed by Glenn Casale and now playing at LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.

Regina Le Vert is a scene stealer as Ursula, in perfect harmony with her minions, Mitchell Lam Hau (Flotsam) and Christopher Diem (Jetsam). The audience on opening night could not get enough of this slimy trio. “Daddy’s Little Girl” has never been so hilarious and naughty. If only we could have had an encore of these three scene stealers!

Dana Orange (Sebastian), Kevin Kulp (Flounder), Quintan Craig (Scuttle), and Jeff Skowron (Chef Louis) were equally amazing with incredible vocals, light and nimble on their feet, and kings of comedy. Dana Orange’s acting is just as wonderful as his singing, Kevin Kulp for the first time made me happy with the change of Flounder from child to adult actor, Quintan Craig delighted us with his tap dancing in Act Two, and Jeff Skowron’s “Les Poissons” was so perfect that he almost made me want to go vegetarian (!).

There truly was not a weak note in the cast. Everyone was strong vocally, had great movement, and hilarious comedic timing. Casting Director Lindsay Brooks did a phenomenal job finding this cast for Disney’s The Little Mermaid musical.

The Design Team for Disney’s The Little Mermaid Musical Exceeded Expectations

As you can tell from the photos above, Costume Designer Amy Clark and Scenic Designers Kenneth Foy and Mark Koss and Lighting Designer Charlie Morrison exceeded expectations.

The scenery, props, and sea creatures were crated by a partnership with BROADWAY DALLAS, PAPER MILL PLAYHOUSE, PITTSBURGH CLO, STARLIGHT THEATRE, and THEATRE UNDER THE STARS and built at ADIRONDACK STUDIOS.

One big highlight was Paul Rubin‘s flying sequences choreography for this gorgeous production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid musical.

Everything was truly breathtaking from start to finish.

Glenn Casale and John Macinnis Directed and Choreographed Disney’s The Little Mermaid Right Into Our Hearts

Director Glenn Casale and Choreographer John Macinnis did a phenomenal job drawing the best out of their cast. From the moment the curtain rose and we saw Ariel swimming across the stage, audience members’ mouths were gaping open and the magic of Disney’s The Little Mermaid musical spun a spell around the audience until long after curtain call where the audience received a deserving standing ovation.

Casale did a terrific job with creating just the right sense of under water movement and bringing out the chemistry between the actors in each and every scene.

Macinnis did a beautiful job choreographing everything from intimate dances such as “One Step Closer” to jolly group numbers like “Under the Sea”.
