Zomato graciously offered me an opportunity to visit Catch Champagne Bar Lounge at the Andaz Hotel on Liverpool Street and I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to enjoy some champagne and a chance to enjoy an evening.

When I arrived at nine o’clock on a Saturday evening, the place was nearly empty but the tables and bar were pristine and gleaming. The bartenders were young and pretty young ladies who happily took my order and were willing to split the champagne orders into two smaller portions so we could both sample more options.

Their “Champagne Bar Signatures” had just been changed and I ordered a Brick Lane and a Shoreditch cocktail. I also ordered a Bellini from their “Champagne Bar Bellinis”. The signatures were pricy at the £16 a glass and the bellinis were £12 per glass.

The Shoreditch Cocktail was my favourite – a mix of Apricot Brandy and Champagne. The Brick Lane was Pascaline’s favourite with a mixture of Amaretto, orange juice and Champagne. The Bellini  had Crème de Pêche, peach purèe and Prosecco.

From left to right, the Brick Lane, Bellini and Shoreditch. Whereas the Brick Lane had the colour of champagne, I found the Amaretto too overpowering. the Bellini was sweet and smelled delicious — could have been a perfume! — and was sweet and smooth going down. The Shoreditch (my favourite) was just the right combination of brandy and Champagne and would I reckon be perfectly enjoyed by a toasty fireplace.

To compliment the Champagne, I ordered a small plate — Wild mushroom and chicken terrine — which tasted much better than it looked. At £8, the plate was advertised as “for one or to share” and we had several good mouthfuls of deliciousness each albeit the portion is better for one person. The terrine had some of the best consistency that Pascaline had ever tasted. I particularly found the mushrooms were lovely and tasty.

Big thanks to Zomato for the opportunity to experience the Catch Champagne Bar and Lounge. They provided me with a £50 voucher and I spent an additional £8 making our order a grand total of three drinks and one small plate = £58. Personally I find these prices steep and was disappointed to see that the restaurant tacked on a service charge of 12.5% to the bill.

Would I return to Catch Champagne Bar Lounge?

Yes, it would be nice with a group of girlfriends for a very special occasion. I would not deem this the ideal location for a date however as the local is too cold. There are bar stools and cafe style tables but it would benefit greatly from having couches and a more relaxed feel.

Location: 40 Liverpool Street, EC2M 7QN

The bar is next door to the Liverpool Street Station.

Opening Hours: Open until midnight (Monday) and until 1AM (Tuesday-Saturday) with a DJ night on Fridays from 8pm onwards.
