We are in the middle of summer and the sweet smell waffling over the fences means only one thing – your neighbor is taking full advantage of grilling season. When I saw this new cookbook by the American Heart Association, I knew I had to give it a try.
Unfortunately I was disappointed for 3 primary reasons:
First off – there are ONLY 8 photographs of the dishes. In my opinion, a cookbook is not complete without plenty of colorful pictures enticing you to create new dishes.
Secondly – the price seems a bit high for what amounts to a very ordinary looking cookbook.
Thirdly – it seems strange to me to have an entire section on microwaving.
The strength of the cookbook has to be the list of “tips” about each of the 12 methods of cooking. For example, under “grilling” there are 14 tips, including one to use a spatula to roll kebabs over, plus another page of safety tips. There is also a “cook’s tip” for each recipe.
If you are looking to make a transition to healthier eating, this might be a worthwhile purchase. If you are however looking for a summer cookbook I would pass on this particular one. But don’t let me sway you unfairly. Have a look inside here thanks to publishers Penguin Random House.
