Ah yes. Les Misérables, my all-time favorite musical that I religiously followed through high school and college spending my pocket money on seeing the 3rd National Tour numerous times. At one point I could have quoted the entire musical to you. In fact, I was lucky enough to see many Broadway actors just before they found fame on Broadway and the West End including Sutton Foster as Eponine, Sierra Boggess in the ensemble, Benjamin Davis in the ensemble, Marissa McGowan in the ensemble, and Aymee Garcia as Mme. Thénardier.
Since I am going to take a wild guess and presume most anyone reading my blog has seen or heard or read Les Mis I will divert from my usual synopsis and share favorites:
Table of Contents
Favorite LES MISERABLES Soundtracks
1. Complete Symphonic Recording. I know this recording does not have most of my favorite performers but after all the numerous cuts here and there including the gorgeous “Turning” it is a must-have in any fan’s collection.
2. Original London Recording. Again this is a must-have for a chance to hear the show before all those dreadful cuts. Highlights include “I Saw Him Once” (beautiful!!!!!!!) and the chance to hear Roger Allam (better known now as DI Thursday in Endeavour) as Javert.

I remember seeing it in Hungarian, back when I was in high school. I love the music 🙂
The Multicolored Diary
i love hearing musicals in different languages even if i don't understand. so universal.
I'm pretty sure I've seen a movie version of Les Mis, though I can't recall having seen the actual play. I really should read the book and see the play!
the film with Liam Neeson is a great modern adaptation. His Jean Valjean is fantastic as is the soundtrack.
My favorite was your letter C.. Chess. I saw last year, The Band's Visit , Beautiful and Book of Mormon. They were all great in their own way. I guess Wicked no! I saw Chitty, Chitty , Bang, Ban years ago in London and that was WOW… I don't think I can pick a favorite.
did you see Michael Ball in Chitty? That'd be so cool!
At one time I was really into musicals and saw Les Miserables in Budapest. Thanks to catching your post I'm now googling what's on this spring! 🙂
hope you find something to see this spring! 🙂
