Amazon Prime: Promotional Accounts!

Who doesn't love Amazon Prime? I know I do! And boy was I grateful to be able to get the discounted Prime program for $5.99/month (almost 1/2 off the normal price) this month. Since I had never heard of such a great option for the past 3 years I have had Medicaid, I figured I would share the other options you too might be able to enjoy!

1. EBT and Medicaid cardholders get a discount on Amazon Prime
** updated comments 8/19: forgive me for ever recommending this discount. yes it's a great savings BUT only applies to 1 person in a household so what if you have another member who wants to share your prime shipping. not a chance. and if you ask for customer service help online you'll be transferred to 4 different reps before the 4th rudely says "Even if I connect you to [my supervisor], he will inform you the same" and stays silent as you say goodbye and explain (rant) your disappointment. So disappointing and rude and horrible!! After all the $$ and years I have been a regular Prime member. Horrid!!!**

As an Amazon Prime member, you receive a free 30-day trial that includes Free Two-Day Shipping on over 100 million items, exclusive shopping deals, and discounts on diapers and baby food. After your trial ends, customers who verify with a valid EBT or Medicaid card receive access to all Prime benefits, discounted to just $5.99 per month. NOTE: NO Sharing of household benefits such as shared prime shipping.

2. Amazon Family

Parents of young babies and toddlers can get the following with their Amazon Family membership:

  • Free baby registry welcome box
  • 20% off diaper subscriptions, baby food and more (Subscribe & Save)
  • 15% completion discount on your baby registry
  • Exclusive Coupons and Deals from Amazon Family
  • Amazon Freetime Unlimited
  • Amazon Prime Membership
The membership is $99 annually per family (compared to $119 for a regular Prime Membership).

3. Prime Students

6-month trial courtesy of Sprint, for new members only.
After your trial, Prime student is just $6.49/month or $59/year. Cancel anytime.

Disability: Have You Heard of These Discounts?

Often I find myself hearing about new discount options for those who have disabilities like myself. It is amazing how "hidden" these benefits are. There should be a list somewhere, I thought. So maybe I will start one now...

1. Electricity Discount (CARE/FERA)
If you need extra air or heat because of your health and get a doctor's help, you can get a discount on your electricity bill for air conditioning and/or heating.
California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) reduces energy bills for eligible customers by about 30%.
Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) reduces electric bills for qualified households by 12%.
2. FREE Mobile Phone Plans (Lifeline)
You can get Lifeline if you participate in one of these federal assistance programs:
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Tribal Programs (and live on federally-recognized Tribal lands)

Show a card, letter, or official document, as proof that you participate in one of these programs when you apply for Lifeline.
A while ago I heard about the program from a driver but they weren't providing phones at the time. Apparently now they're back to providing phones! YAY. I just applied and am getting my phone plan via TruConnect that includes:
    Free - Android Phone
Free - Up to 1.5GB Monthly Data
Free - Unlimited Talk and Text
Free - Unlimited Calls to Select Countries
Can't wait to review it for you soon.

Update (8/15/18): TruConnect rep said that my application is being reviewed and after it has been approved in a couple days it will be shipped to me. If they have any questions they will contact me via email.

Update 8/21/18: Application was approved! They say "Please allow up to 2 weeks from the date of this email to receive your phone."

3. Discounted AMAZON Prime w/ Medicaid.

- Prime is just $5.99/month for qualifying customers in select U.S. government assistance programs such as holders of the EBT card.
- Enjoy the benefits of Prime at almost 50% off the regular monthly price for 1 individual account!
-DOES NOT ALLOW FOR HOUSEHOLD SHARING!!!!

That's it for now. Hope these 3 have been helpful. Cheers,

Amazon Prime: Cutting the Cord?

Are you considering dropping cable and starting to pay for individual channels c/o Amazon Prime? if you calculate the numbers you might be surprised by how smart this decision could be for you and your household.

Amazon Prime: $99 /year [or $5.99 /month for qualifying customers in select U.S. government assistance programs such as holders of the EBT card] includes free two-day shipping and prime reading for your kindle too! plus numerous other offers.

Not convinced if Prime is for you? Try their 30 day free trial!

Individual Channels:
Some of my favorites (so far!)

$6.99/month after your free trial! Worth the price to watch the amazing Poirot that is no longer available on Netflix.

$14.99/month after your free trial including the addictive Big Little Lies.

$8.99/month after your free trial. My only conflict is that many of the classic Showtime shows are already available as part of Amazon Prime. So it depends on what shows you're keen to watch.

$5.99/month after your free trial including the fabulous Endeavor (the first 4 seasons are all available via Prime) and Victoria (Season 1 is on Prime).

If you love to watch those addictive Lifetime Movie films, it's only $3.99 a month after your free trial!! Consider that most of the films on Amazon are $4.99 the price is a great deal. Even LMN on demand (cable) does not include all these great films.

Great Courses is a great (!!) buy. For $7.99 a month (after your free trial) you can watch as many of the Great Courses on Amazon Video that would otherwise cost you over one hundred dollars for some of the most popular courses!

So here are some numbers. Imagine you have the prime membership plus 2 channels. That adds up to:
$99 Prime Membership (1 year)
$6.99/mo. x6 Britbox ($41.94)
$7.99/mo x3 Great Courses ($23.97)
$14.99/mo x12 HBO ($179.88)
= $344.79

And remember! You don't have to make a 12 month contract with any of these channels and can cancel them whenever you want and restart just as quickly (often without the free trial). And the Prime Membership includes so much more than just Prime Video.

WW: Stuffed Green Peppers

Good morning! Today I want to bring you a tried and true recipe that will make your Weight Watchers experience that much easier. The stuffed green pepper. I remember my mom making these on a regular basis as a child. At the time weight loss was not an issue so the pepper was stuffed with steamed rice before she added the meat. However since we're trying to stay low in smart points I am going to skip the rice for today. But do know that Weight Watchers does not shun rice in general.

Ingredients:
2 bell peppers (any color will do)
1 pound ground meat
1 egg

these ingredients measurements will vary depending on personal taste
green bell pepper, chopped
onion, chopped
zucchini, chopped
tomato sauce
parsley, optional
low-fat cheddar cheese, optional

Directions:
  • preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • wash and core the two bell peppers and place them in a baking dish
  • sauté the ground meat
  • don't forget to drain excess fat
  • mix the ground meat with the chopped vegetables and egg and any spices
  • stuff the ground meat and vegetables mixture into the bell peppers
  • bake for 20 minutes
  • add tomato sauce and cheddar cheese
  • bake for another 10 minutes
  • top with parsley before serving hot
If you are looking for a starch side dish, consider 1/2 of a small baked potato (2 smart points) or 1/2 cup of steamed rice is 2.5 smart points.

Accessible: Can't chop? Can't cut? If you don't have someone who can help you out in the kitchen (thanks Dad!) consider adaptive utensils and cutting knifes for those of us who are disabled, have arthritis and hand muscle weakness. Popular brands are Sammons and BunMo.

Films for Easter: Lion of Judah

Hi friends! Sorry its been a day and an age since I was last online but things have been a bit hectic and scary lately with a hospital stay last week and other health issues. But in readiness for Easter (1 April 2018) I wanted to share a few of my favorite Easter films worth watching these next few weeks:

#1 - Lion of Judah (Amazon Prime/DVD)
Lion of Judah is a 3D Computer Animated Christian comedy-drama starring Georgina Cordova as the voice of Judah, a young and impressionable lamb, who meets a barn yard of mismatched animals including Sandi PattyAnupam KherMichael Madsenand Ernest Borgnine, who had previously witnessed the humble birth of the Savior in Once Upon A Stable. On a journey to Jerusalem they meet up with a down on his luck and depressed donkey, Scott Eastwood. And together this mismatched group of animals participate in the Passion Week up through Easter morning.

This is an excellent choice for the children in your family and/or Sunday School. Due to the topic, there are a few scary scenes although nothing is actually shown. This is a movie safe to be shown for all ages.

And yes this is also a great film to watch as adults. My friend A and I watched the film a couple times and both of us experienced GOOSIES thanks to the gorgeous scenes between Jesus (Bruce Marchiano) and Scott Eastwood's depressed Jack and later with the jubilant Georgina Cordova's Judah. Goosies, I repeat. The love and compassion we see in the character of Jesus and the hope and transformation we see in the animals is mesmerizing!

Rating: PG for mild thematic elements
Director: Deryck Broom & Roger Hawkins
Written by: Brent Dawes
Running Time: 87 Minutes

Where to Watch:
Amazon Prime Video (free)
Amazon ($9.99) - Combo DVD of Once Upon A Stable and Lion of Judah.

Ralph Fiennes' Voice as JESUS is the Ultimate

Have you seen THE STAR yet? I cannot wait. Love the soundtrack already thanks to Apple Music. Until I get a chance to see the film in cinema, I decided to watch/listen to the 2000 Russian made stop-motion film Miracle Maker starring Ralph Fiennes as Jesus.
If you haven't already seen the movie, I highly recommend it! Perhaps stop motion is not your cup of tea (nor is it mine) but the voice portrayal of Ralph Fiennes as JESUS is exceptional, one of my all time favorite portrayals.
Miracle Maker. (c) Miracle Maker.
Fiennes' portrays Jesus as a humane man with great emotion -- including passion when he cries over John the Baptist, overturns tables at the Temple; a natural speaking voice riddled with humor when he speaks to the crowds and his disciples; and even a sigh (!) when the Pharisees begin to ask him another question. <Loved it.> I could go on and on. Ralph Fiennes might be better known for Schindler's List and Harry Potter but he was a perfectly casted Jesus (as an adult).

All that to say, I cannot wait to see THE STAR in cinemas (out today!!) and if you have Amazon Prime do yourself a favor and watch/listen to Ralph Fiennes' Miracle Maker.

Some THE STAR Trivia:
- Christopher Plummer (Herod) played Herod's son and heir in Jesus of Nazareth.

#ChronicPain: Must Have Pants

(c) Champion.
are you in chronic pain like me? do you suffer from trouble walking and getting your legs in pants? if so, I have an excellent option and it's fairly inexpensive so win -win!

Champion's women jersey banded knee pants have two pockets, are made of cotton (some colors do have some polyester in the material), have a draw cord for adjustability, are machine washable, and fall on me (5'2") right below my knee similar to the stock photo.

I love these pants and have them in both Oxford Gray and Black. They are comfy enough for lounging around the house, wear well to physical therapy, and not tacky enough when I have to go to the doctor's office or am joining a friend for a cuppa.

So if you are in the same boat as myself, do yourself a favor and check out Champion's jersey banded knee pants.

One of those brands, Dot&Dot, has a packing cube that is advertised to "maximize luggage space" and is "not just for clothes (also make the perfect travel tote for makeup and beauty products, cosmetic bottles, toiletry kits, pantyhose, delicates, small purses, and even camera accessories)".

New Years: Let's Get in Shape!

O man! It's already New Years Eve and I am so not mentally ready. Are you? So what are your exciting new resolutions that you plan to carry through all 366 days of 2016? My #1 is to attain 100% healing with my chronic fatigue and finish my dissertation/MA -- 2 years later, but hey who's counting?  My doctor prescribes an eating regiment, herbs and supplements and of course some exercise (oddly he is most interested in my upper body strength so has my becoming bffs with my bright orange kettle bell, lol). So why not add a shiny red jump rope to the mix?

What a Lovely Christmas!

Hello! I hope everyone had a fabulous and wonderful Christmas holiday with their families and loved ones. Sitting in front of the fireplace and Christmas tree, I can't help but smile at how fortunate and blessed I am this year. This might have been the fastest year but look at what a difference a year makes. God has definitely been in the business of healing my body this year and I am praying and hoping to make a complete recovery this year (sooner the better!) and finish my dissertation... And what better way to indulge the day after Christmas but with a nice glass of red wine?

Two Thumbs Up: Protein Hair Mask

Ladies, I am thrilled to share with you an amazing product that can not help but bring a smile to your face.  Arvazallia has come out with their own Fortifying Protein Hair Mask infused with Argan Oil and Macadamia Oil that truly works miracles.  Since receiving my hair mask in the post, I have used it once a week as recommended and seen immediate results for the better that last for days. My hair feels glossy, looks shiny and the frizz is at a minimum! Seriously amazing stuff.
So how does it work, you ask?

 1. After shampooing your hair, towel dry your hair.
2. Apply a liberal amount of the mask to your hair and comb through, covering all your hair.
3. Leave the mask in for 7-10 minutes. I usually brush my teeth or shave my legs while waiting for the mask to set but you could even have a cuppa while waiting. Just whatever you do, don't rinse for the 7-10 minutes!
4. After your mask has set, rinse, dry and style as usual.
5. Enjoy your beautiful hair!

I promise you, ladies, that this is a product worth trying! Amazon's #1 New Hair Treatment Oil is currently on sale for $11.89 16.99 and promises:
"Professional Salon Protein Hair Treatment that Repairs, Restores, and Strengthens Damaged, Dry , Brittle, and Over-processed hair while also Preventing Breakage and Mending Split Ends."
So what are you waiting for? Give your hair some extra love and enjoy!

xx
