AtoZ: Many Musicals to share

HI Guys! I love quite a few M musicals so this is a tough one. I think I'll share a few of my favourites so bare with me :)

Martin Guerre (Boublil and Schonberg)
Written by the same team that gave you Les Mis and Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre is loosely based on the real Martin Guerre and set in France during the Protestant-Catholic wars. I first learned of the musical due to a medley sung by David Campbell and Maria Friedman in "Hey Mr. Producer!"

Miss Saigon (Boublil and Schonberg)
I had the opportunity to see the 25th Anniversary production of Miss Saigon on the London stage in 2014 when I was going to uni. I have loved the music since I first got hold of a cassette set featuring Claire Moore as Ellen and immediately I was "Team Ellen" but then again I do love Kim so oh drat. The music is lush and it is so heartbreaking. Unfortunately I HATE the changes they made to the revival. Like I said with Les Mis why change what's not broken? This time they ruined my favourite scene in Act Two ("Confrontation") and gave Ellen a new song that was not needed. I am growing to appreciate it but still I just don't get it. So to cleanse our pallets here is Claire Moore and Lea Salonga from the original cast:

Memphis
Oh gosh I love love love this musical! My family and I stumbled upon it on PBS and were hooked. I even bought tickets for my parents and their besties to go to see it when it came to the Pantages. The music is catchy and the dancing is electric. Great story (strong story) and a great opportunity to showcase some incredible singers such as was done with Montego Glover, Felicia Boswell, and Beverley Knight in the original Broadway, National Tour and London casts. No offense to the great men who surround these ladies but the story belongs to Felicia.
Luckly you can get the movie of the original broadway cast on Amazon Prime here.

Seriously way too many M musicals to share but here's one more to enjoy.

Mozart!
Mozart! is a German language rock opera musical that tells the story of the struggles of composer Mozart. It is not to be mistaken for the French language musical Mozart, l'opéra rock. I first decided to get the album because of the great German talent including Thomas Borchert, Mark Siebert ("Elisabeth"), Carin Filipcic, Uwe Kroger. A favourite song: Niemand liebt dich so wie ich

until next time!

  1. At M already? What timezone are you in? Well, good for you for being ahead. Better than being behind, right?

Great post. Miss Saigon is really interesting, isn't it?

  2. Indeed the letter M provides you with countless possibilities. I haven't seen any of the musicals, but I liked the Maria Friedman song you picked. Her voice reminded me of Barbra Streisand's.

    Happy Monday!
