Happy Thanksgiving from The Joyous Living

In case the football game and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are not your cup of tea here are just a few of my favourite Thanksgiving shows to watch on tv/film:

1. Charlie Brown: The Mayflower Voyagers (free on Prime)
A holiday is never complete without some Charlie Brown. And has anyone noticed that the pilgrims are rarely mentioned on Thanksgiving anymore? Proud to say that mum's ancestors were pilgrims and even listed in William Bradford's book of Plymouth!

2. The Gratitude List (Last Man Standing, Season 5 - free on HULU)
how can you not love the Baxter family? I'm definitely counting it one of my things to be thankful for this year that the show is back on the air.

3. Thanksgiving (Home Improvement, Season 7 - free on HULU)
can you tell i have a love Tim Allen? Here is a true classic when the Taylors head off to the football game.

4. The Good, The Bad and the Baby (Castle, Season 6)
There's an adorable baby dressed in a turkey onesie and there is some outrageous dress up at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

5. Miracle on 34th Street
Yep, Santa is officially in town once the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade concludes. Aside from the classic in 1947 there are 2 film adaptations that deserve an honourable mention. First, the Thomas Mitchell t.v. version (my favourite Santa) that is free on Prime and next the 1994 Richard Attenborough remake that many disliked when it first came out but I think it is more and more charming every time I watch it with a fabulous Attenborough as Kris Kringle and Dylan McDermott as our hero.

6. Blind Side (available with HBO)
Ah yes, one last movie and this one is a great feel good classic starring Sandra Bullock in my favourite of her performances and Tim McGraw as two Southern Baptist parents who open up their home to Michael Oher (future NFL star). No this is not a propaganda piece nor is it full of Christianese. It is a well acted feel good movie based on the power of love and family with a fabulous Thanksgiving scene that makes puts a smile on my face and has me rethinking the classic Norman Rockwell painting.

What are some of you favourite shows and movies to watch on and around Thanksgiving Day? May your day be blessed...
