O is for... Oliver

18 April 2017

For my 2017 challenge, I was not sure quite what I wanted to blog about. Numerous ideas were coming to mind but each seemed to require even more energy and strength. So I've decided to focus on an acronym for ART:
A - Artists (musicians, painters, photographers, writers, etc.)
- Reading (books, poems, etc.)
T - Theater (movies, musicals, plays, etc.)

Today we're focusing on...

Oliver
Oliver is of course one of Charles Dickens' most cherished and loved characters in Oliver Twist and the title of the beloved Lionel Barry musical.

When buying a copy of the book, be sure to get an illustrated copy, preferably by George Cruikshank such as the Barnes & Nobles Classics series copy.
Fagin by George Cruikshank.
And for fans of the musical, check out I'D DO ANYTHING the BBC reality show where Andrew Lloyd Webber casts Nancy and Oliver for his 2009 London Revival. It helped launch the careers of Jodie Prenger (Oliver!), Jessie Buckley (Henry V), Samantha Barks (Les Miserables), Rachel Tucker (Wicked) and Niamh Perry (Love Never Dies).

  3. I think I've seen the 1922 Oliver Twist film with Lon Chaney, Sr., and little Jackie Coogan. One of these days, I ought to read the book.
