SB Zoo: Himalayan Monal Pheasant

24 April 2016

Have you been enjoying The Joyous Living's series on the Santa Barbara Zoo and its gorgeous offerings? Today I am thrilled to share with you one of the zoo's most beautiful residents -- the Himalayan Monal Pheasant.

At a zoo that is renowned for its beauty and gorgeous location near the California coast, it is only right that they should feature the gorgeous Himalayan Monal Pheasant in their walk-through aviary.
Habitat: Mountainous regions; in summer, they are found in rocky, grass covered meadows and winters in coniferous and mixed forests. At the Santa Barbara Zoo, they are commonly sighted on the rocks in the walk-through aviary.
Similarities to Peacocks: The males are adorned with beautiful metallic colors of green, purple, red and blue and have a very long crest, much like a peacock.
Nepal: National bird of Nepal. A common nickname for the bird is "Impeyan" after Lady Impey.
Population Status: Vulnerable.
Zoo Tickets: $10-$17
Train Tickets: $5 (non-member); $4 (member)
Parking (in the zoo's lot): $7 (non-member); 1 free car (member)
Zoo Address: 500 Ninos Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93103
