|Fred Helsel as Tevye (2004, (c) SVCAC)|
Fiddler on the Roof with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein, has been wowing audiences since Zero Mostel and the original cast opened on Broadway in 1964.
With memorable tunes such as If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker and To Life, Fiddler on the Roof tells the story of life, love and upheaval during the 1905 political upset known as the Pale of Settlement in the Russian Empire.
This production is being headlined by Fred Helsel who also starred in The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center's 2004 and 2006 productions alongside third-time returning Kathleen Silverman (Yente) and Seth Kamenow (Motel). Helsel also serves as a Producer and Kamenow as the Set Designer for this 2015 production.
They are joined by Sharon Gibson (Golde) and Madeline Fanton, Jennifer Ridgway, Katie Hume, as their adult daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava. Andrew Allen and Luke Leard will play love interests Perchik and Fyedka. Tom Puckett takes on the role of the Rabbi with Jared Price playing his son Mendel. Newcomers to the SVCAC stage, Janee Hull and Carla Bambo, will play the “ghost” roles of Fruma Sarah and Grandma Tzeitel. Other featured roles include Augusto Guardado as the Fiddler, Ken Brookes as Lazar Wolf, Larry Shilkoff as Mordcha, Kevin Ellis as the Constable, Eric Lin as Sasha and Paul Bartlett as Avram.
Rounding out the cast will be Lucas Panczel, Ryan Peterson, Sam Machado, Annelise Panczel, Brittany Dakoske, Jessica Bell, Lauren Handlin, Melissa Shilkoff, Tatiana Cantu, Cindy Skilkoff, Linda Smith, Julie Snyder, Genevieve Levin and a shout out to my former student, the lovely Emily Jordan.
Producer/Director and General Manager, David Ralphe, "anticipate(s) that once again Fiddler on the Roof will be a resounding success for SVCAC." I look forward to bringing you my review after opening night on the 12th of September. Until then, do yourself a favor and check out ticket options at www.simi-arts.org! Should be a great night at the theatre for all.
