Say YES to HUIT Bras

23 June 2015

Hi Lovelies!
Remember my glowing review of the gorgeous HUIT sweet mermaid bathing suit? Well now it's time to introduce you all to my new favourite bra. Seriously - I am more and more impressed with HUIT each time! At the SS15 preview in London, I remember finding this tree of lingerie by the Parisian designer to be quite tempting and alluring. I knew I had to try on that gorgeous Arpege Ivy Padded Air Bra (link) and guess what? It fits and feels and looks just as wonderful as I had hoped.

The Phantom of the Opera: Phan Faves

18 June 2015

In honour of last night's opening night of the new touring production of The Phantom of the Opera, here are my favorite performers of all time:
Brad Little & Lisa Vroman. Photo by: Joan Marcus.
The Phantom
1. Ron Bohmer - my first Phantom and what a voice!
2. Brad Little - my second Phantom and what a powerful presence!
3. Ramin Karimloo - 25th anniversary Phantom (DVD) with the best "Point of No Return".
4. Tim Martin Gleason - I had originally seen him as Raoul (opposite Brad Little) and found his Phantom to be the darkest portrayal yet.
5. Chris Mann - his money notes were strong and spot on but no scene/number in particular captivated me.
Sean MacLaughlin (LA, 2010)
Raoul
1. Victor Wallace - my first Raoul (u/s) and was everything I imagined - strong, gorgeous and voice like butter.
2. Sean MacLaughlin - he was the epitome of hero and his voice was so rich, strong and deep and stole the show from Tim Martin Gleason's Phantom. #TeamRaoul
3. Hadley Fraser - 25th anniversary (DVD); loved his "Why Have You Brought Me Here?"
4. Tim Martin Gleason
5. Storm Lineberger
Sierra Boggess as Christine.
Christine
1. Lisa Vroman - that voice! best "Poor Fool, He Makes Me Laugh"
2. Sandra Joseph - that spunkiness during Don Juan; and chemistry with future-husband Ron Bohmer was amazing.
3. Sierra Boggess - 25th anniversary (DVD); loved her farewell to the Phantom
4. Trista Maldovan
5. Katie Travis

Who are your PHAN favorites?
xx

Phantom 2.0 Lacks Chemistry

The Phantom of the Opera is back in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theatre, after the 3rd national tour shuttered here in 2010. This re-imagined tour has the same beloved score, those gorgeous costumes are back (aside from the Red Death mask) and the familiar love triangle. The changes are however dramatic and can be quite jarring for anyone who has seen the original production. New staging by Laurence Connor, new design by Paul Brown and added dialogue are the most disconcerting changes and can even cause confusion for first-time watchers. (Potential spoilers to follow).

Freya SS15: Meet the Icon and Fancies

17 June 2015

Who doesn't love a chance to add something pretty and pink to their wardrobe? European brand, Freya Lingerie, dedicates itself "to giving you fashion that fits beautifully and looks gorgeous, including lingerie, swimwear and sportswear" and they have put together a gorgeous SS15 collection as highlighted in my previous post here.

On a second perusal of their easy-to-navigate website, I noticed their Icon Milkshake Moulded Plunge Bra (see photo inset left) in a flirty and charming sorbet shade. The company's official description says:
"The moulded plunge bra offers excellent uplift, shape and support with moulded cup liners in a bold and beautiful shade of pink. A contrasting apricot stretch lace overlay completes the look and provides a comfortable and easy fit."

Film Review: Inside Out

16 June 2015

Inside Out hits cinemas on Friday. The previews are charming and endearing. With an all-star voice cast including Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler as the film's protagonist, Joy, and The Office's Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and the A-level animation that Disney and Pixar are renowned for, Inside Out is a film that will speak to many and can certainly bring a smile and laugh to its audience. But the key question is -- who is it's target audience?

Melatonin: Need a Good Night's Sleep?

09 June 2015

Do you ever suffer from a difficulty falling to sleep? I never thought that would be me but after coming down with post-viral fatigue, I have come to appreciate the need for sleep despite restless nights. When I first could not sleep through the night, my GP gave me a prescription for a sleeping medication but I prefer homeopathic and natural alternatives so I was thrilled to learn about melatonin - an all natural sleep aid.

Matilda Opens On the Road

08 June 2015

Matilda the musical (the first equity U.S. tour) opened at LA's Ahmanson Theatre last night. The audience and I were thoroughly impressed with the cast, catchy numbers and high energy choreography and staging. Matilda is played by three young actors on rotation (Mia Sinclair Jenness at the opening night performance) and there is no denying that the 9 year old effortlessly carries the show with her wittiness, spunk, grace, charm, and triple threat performance.

Spiralizing is what all the 'cool kids' are doing. Using a spiralizer you can turn vegetables into tasty and healthy alternatives for fried rice, noodles, tortillas and shoestring fries! It is the perfect inexpensive kitchen gadget for anyone eating low-carb, gluten-free, Paleo or Raw.
