Berlin: Mauermuseum/Haus Am Checkpoint Charlie

19 March 2014

Berlin is jam-packed full of museums of the historical and art varieties.
Being an history enthusiast, I opted for the historical route and spent my first morning at the Mauermuseum (also known as Haus Am Checkpoint Charlie).
Admission is 12,50 euros for adults & 9,50 for students (with valid ID) and a photo permit is 1 euro.

The Museum is located right by the Checkpoint Charlie tourist trap so hard to miss.
One of the highlights at the museum were the numerous vehicles on display used to convey people across the wall into safety.
There were also numerous photographs and posters of life during the Cold War.
You also had the opportunity to explore the stories of peace advocates, victims and survivors. Placards were written in German, English and French and to read them all you would have to dedicate 4+ hours.

It was a beautiful museum full of great information, fascinating exhibits helping you appreciate how people had to survive during the Cold War. I would highly recommend a visit but please do yourself a favour and plan for a good half day as you won't want to rush through.
